You begin by filing Form I-130, the Petition for Alien Relative, with supporting documentation.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reviews your petition. Approval confirms the family relationship.
Once approved, the case is sent to the National Visa Center (NVC) and then the U.S. consulate in your family member’s country (if applying from abroad).
After the consular interview and background checks, your loved one receives their immigrant visa and eventually their green card.
