Treatment of GOP Latinos telling of U.S. legal climate

While Mexican immigrants have long sought new opportunities in the United States, it's only recently that their children and grandchildren have begun to seek political office in the country. As of September 2011, there were 41 Hispanic elected officials in America, and while historically most of these Latino lawmakers and politicians have chosen to run as Democrats, this is now changing.

For example, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez - the nation's only Latino serving in this capacity - was forced to clarify the legal status of her elder family members. In the case of Martinez, she needed to disprove allegations about her heritage after reports circulated that documents were found that suggested her grandfather was in fact an illegal alien.

Complicating matters was the fact that Martinez is part of a new wave of Latino Republicans with a different view on immigration. Together with similar-minded elected officials in Arizona, Texas and California, these lawmakers are looking to take a more conservative stance on immigration, something that many Latino rights supporters find hypocritical.

As a result of the political stance of these individuals, Mexican citizens who are looking to pursue work visas or immigration marriages in these states may soon face more scrutiny, a fact they may want to note before choosing a new destination for their loved ones.

This transition is also coming at a time when the climate in certain parts of America is changing. Recent reports indicate that violence against Latinos is rising in the southwestern states, and as a result, those who come across the border legally with the help of a Houston or San Antonio immigration lawyer may be wise to continue their relationship with this immigration law office.

By finding a group of professionals that can help them no matter what kind of legal situations their family finds themselves in, these individuals can ensure their safety and well-being in their new home country.

Garcia, Ramirez, Gonzalez and Pina offer professional in-person legal consultation in the McAllen, Harlingen, Corpus Christi, Houston and San Antonio metropolitan areas, and can be reached by interested individuals in other Texas locations by phone.
